Schymik's Kitchen
About This Spot
Stepping into Schymik's Kitchen feels like settling into a warm, inviting corner of Evansville where the day slows just enough for genuine moments to unfold. Housed in a charming, renovated space on Parrett Street, the atmosphere welcomes you with soft natural light and the gentle hum of conversations that ebb and flow with an easy rhythm. Whether you choose a quiet table tucked away indoors or enjoy the fresh air on the patio, there’s a comforting intimacy here that makes every visit feel a little like coming home.
The pace at Schymik’s blends the relaxed ease of a neighborhood brunch spot with the thoughtful attention to detail of an event-ready kitchen, where every plate is crafted to balance familiar warmth with a hint of elegant discovery. It’s the kind of place where the richness of short ribs can feel as approachable as avocado toast, and the intrigue of a well-curated whisky or glass of chardonnay complements the whole experience without fuss.
What makes this kitchen special is how food and drink invite you into a storytelling moment — the crispness of Brussels sprouts paired alongside hearty fare like a brie burger, or the seasonal nuances found in a rotating quiche or seafood pot pie that echo the rhythms of local and thoughtful sourcing. Each sip and bite feels purposeful but unpretentious, encouraging conversation and the kind of slow savoring that transforms a simple meal into a memorable gathering.
Visitors often find themselves drawn in by the attentive, knowledgeable hospitality that balances warmth with respect for each guest’s pace. This is a place where a thoughtful recommendation from your server feels like insider guidance and the subtle charm of a well-matched wine or bourbon adds a quiet layer to the whole experience.
More than just a meal, Schymik’s Kitchen unfolds as a space for meaningful connections — whether that’s an unhurried Sunday brunch or an intimate event in the softly lit rooms upstairs. It’s a small, carefully cultivated corner of Evansville that invites you to slow down, share a good plate, and enjoy the textures of atmosphere and human presence that linger long after the last bite.

Belly of the Wolf is the best Evansville has to offer! From a perfect smash burger to the highest quality fine dining, along with a casual atmosphere and an amazing patio, it just doesn't get better than this!

My husband and I really enjoyed Schymik’s Kitchen. We were seated at the time of our reservation, our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, the atmosphere was great and the wine/bourbon selection was great for the menu they offered. We really enjoyed the food. It was definitely a treat to be here and enjoy this restaurant for the first time.

Google needs to update their information. Over a year , it has new owners and it's called The Belly of the Wolf. They're actively on FACEBOOK. The best neighborhood restaurant ive experienced thus far. The menu changes , middle to upper class clients, moderate priced, delicious highend meals prepared in a renovated 2 story home that seats intimately about 20 & outside as well during the Fall. All the ingredients are sourced locally within a 50 mile radius using talented farmers from the tristate area. The building is next to Moe's. The perfect place for date-night or to impress the inlaws. It's the perfect venue for high-end meals blended in a home setting. Although a bar is present, why would you leave the dinner table and isolate yourself from the good company at the table and miss out on the overall feeling of a home dinner? Follow them on Facebook to see the latest menu. On my visit wagyu beef was on the menu. The chef informed me that duck and lamb will be on the menu sometime in November. Rating: 5 stars times 3 We will return. I just realized that I didn't take pics of the meal. I wish them overall long-term success.

I’m 54 European so I know my food, best steak and eggs Ive ever had. 5 starts but after I got the bill had to drop it to 4, inflation fee 3% just add that to the price, that’s not an honest move.

We stopped in Evansville as a halfway point in our road trip home for the holidays and searched for a nice dinner near our Airbnb. We were blown away by this place, now under the name "Belly of the Wolf". Plates are served tapas style, and everything was incredible. We had mixed greens grown locally dressed with vinaigrette, tomatoes, grated cheese and sort of confetti-like bacon that wasn't overpowering. Next we had seared scallops and oyster mushrooms in a potato truffle pure. What?! Seriously delicious! Last, we shared the Steak Fries... the flavor was incredible, and the steak cooked perfectly. They also have an extensive wine menu and full bar. Our whole experience was so unexpected, super chill wait staff, hosts and new chef that were incredibly skilled, yet down to earth. A dinner experience we'll often remember!

Top notch restaurant! We were happily greeted and seated. Service was professional and food came out quickly. We got a little bit of everything from the soup du jour, seafood pot pie and pork chop. I saw a cheesecake go by so I had to order on myself and I’m glad i did! There’s was a caramel or dulce de leche shell on top - so good! Our 8 and 5 year old gobbled everything up as well.

I was advised to go to this restaurant for the shellfish and grit and I was not disappointed. Everything exceeded the expectations. The shellfish and grit paired with the Chardonnay were very delicious. We couldn’t resist the bourbon cheesecake either and caramel topping made it a perfect topping for our nice dinner. The hosting lady was so kind and attentive that we felt pampered by the service. And the fact that the check comes with a different book each time is a special treat for book lovers like myself.

Visited Schymik’s for brunch while I was in town for the holidays and I was incredibly impressed. They don’t offer an overwhelming selection, but instead take more basic dishes and make creative twists that are both beautiful and delicious creations, and made with fine ingredients. You can tell they have high standards of quality and the staff has talent and passion for what they do. It’s in the little details like this house made chive cream cheese and fresh spices... We really enjoyed the smoked salmon and bagels. Also, they offer a unique and untapped experience in Evansville - ticketed private meals, with fixed menus and a more intimate experience. I will be back to try one of those, but I highly recommended this spot and am glad to see Evansville with ideas like this. Our server/the manager, Herbert, was very pleasant and accommodating as well!
